Local Men Arrested On Drug Charges
According to information from JCSO, detectives of the unit arrived a a home in rural Jefferson County near Illinois State 148 and placed an undercover telephone call to a known crack cocaine dealer and requested $200 worth of the drug be delivered to the location.
“The dealer took the bait and agreed to deliver the crack cocaine,” information states.
A Chevy Blazer arrived at the location with three occupants, the driver exited and delivered the crack cocaine to an undercover agent in exchange for U.S. currency, according to police. A search of the occupants and vehicle resulted in the recovery of quantities of crack cocaine and money. All items were seized as evidence.
All three men in the vehicle were arrested. The driver of the Blazer, DeShawon A. Washington, 20, of the 800 block of South 19th Street, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, crack cocaine, with the intent to deliver. The front passenger of the Blazer, Devondis M. Jackson, 18, of the 600 block of South 16th Street, was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, crack cocaine, with the intent to deliver.
The rear passenger in the vehicle, Cortez L. Pickett, 21, of the 800 block of South 19th Street, was taken into custody and later released pending further investigation.
